Not just a few — fifty to sixty elephant seals have taken over management of Point Reyes National Seashore, and about 35 pups have been born! The good news is that even if the shutdown ends permanently soon, the seashore’s “former” owners say they will make sure the seal pups vacate the area at their own speed and aren’t pushed out by humans eager to enjoy the beach again!
