DMV Spotlight shines a light on National Prescription Take Back Day on Saturday, April 27th across the DMV. Guest Scott Hoernke, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration Washington Field Division talked about the importance of clearing expired and unused prescription drugs out of the medicine cabinet where they can be abused or even stolen. Hoernke offered the DEA website where listeners can enter their zip code and locate the nearest police station or community event to drop off the unwanted prescriptions. Hoernke insists police will ask no questions about any drugs turned in. The collected prescriptions are destroyed to keep the medicines out of the local environment including the Chesapeake Bay.
